Light Company Women
|
The Light Company The women of the Light Company portray primarily officer's, non-commissioned officer's, and soldier's wives. In an effort to more accurately portray camp life, the Light Company frequently sets up a regulation camp for the men and a more loosely organized camp for the women, and children. The women of the light company perform necessary chores around the camp, tend to their children and demonstrate 18th century cooking and crafts, such as candlemaking, soapmaking, dying, spinning, and sewing. These crafts would have been typical of those performed by the camp followers of Washington's army as they supply the needs of an army on the move. The children of the light company are equally involved in assisting the women in camp, and playing 18th century games or are involved on the military side as ensigns, musicians or runners. |
